These chisels are made from one solid piece of forged steel so can get up to extreme abuse. They may be able to be struck on the ends with a hammer and sustain no damage. They are hardened at the cutting edge to 58-60 Rockwell and left relatively hardened at the ends to minimize the danger of flying steel when struck. The handles cant up a couple of degrees from the back of the chisel allowing use as slicks. The handles are dipped in PVC coating. The cutting edge is ground and then sharpened on a felt wheel and ready to use without any touch up. These chisels are made by hand in small batches so the grinding may not all the time be absolutely perfect. They may have small slopes on the bevels and infrequently aren’t exactly perpendicular in their edge grinding. Then again, they are absolutely wonderful workman’s chisels especially useful in timber framing work on account of their length and robustness. These are the go to chisels to have when you wish to have a good chisel that might get damaged in use in outdoor woodworking or general rough environments. Come with tip guards.Made in France.
