Enkaustikos Wax Medium… A very versatile painting medium. Enkaustikos Wax Medium is made from U.S. Pharmaceutical Grade Refined Beeswax and No.1 Singapore Damar Resin. It may be used to create textures or May also be added to Enkaustikos Wax Paints to increase transparency for glazing techniques. Wax Medium is ideal for mixing with your own pigments to make custom colors. It will also be applied as a topcoat to add depth to finished encaustic paintings. May also be easily formulated into a wax paste by dissolving in odorless mineral spirits (do not use heat to speed up the process). Our Wax Medium contains Damar Resin not Damar Varnish. Most artists are accustomed to Damar varnish which is made by dissolving damar crystals in Turpentine. We filter Damar crystals with heat without the usage of solvents of any kind. This is vital because many encaustic recipes call for Damar Varnish containing turpentine which isn’t studio protected and down right unhealthy. There’s no wish to have solvents of any kind in an encaustic studio.
